Sid Richardson Scout Ranch (SR2) weekend camping campsite capacities and information

All campsite assignments are made through the online weekend reservation system.  Reservations are not made through the camp rangers. Reservations for multiple campsites and entire camps must be made by the Camping Registrar (use the weekend camping reservation paper form).

Capt. Kidd Field Area 150 Old Comanche Village site.
Peninsula Field Area 400 Road can be very difficult after rains. Park along the roads. ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING in the fields.
Capt. Kidd Point 80 From new Comanche Village out to the point. Hike gear in from the main road.
Windy Point 60 Wooded campsite on the point. Driveway may be very difficult after rains. Park by main road.

Hermit’s Cave 80 Reserved for units climbing.
Hermit’s Cave Loop Fields 200 The camping areas along the road on the north and west sides of the Hermit’s Cave road loop. Road can get very muddy after rains.

Devil’s Den 50 Reserved for units climbing or backpacking.
Camporee Grounds 500 Huge field camping area for camporees.
Horseshoe Bend Loop West 200 The camping areas along the road on west side of Horseshoe Bend. Road may be difficult after heavy rains.
Horseshoe Bend Loop North 250 The camping areas along the road on north side of Horseshoe Bend. Road may be difficult after heavy rains.
Horseshoe Bend Loop East 200 The camping areas along the road on east side of Horseshoe Bend. Road may be difficult after heavy rains.
Philmont Practice Trail Camp 1 40 Heiermann Backpacking Campsite – remote. Must pack in.

 

Water: Campsite water is on from April 1 – Oct. 31; water is available during the winter only from a central source, from Nov. 1 – March 31.
Campsite Capacities are based on an average 2 per tent.
NOTE: These capacities are WEEKEND CAMPING capacities. Campsite capacities for Summer Camp are different because we use larger tent and platform sets for summer camp.
